The parties filed a joint motion to stay the proceedings in this civil case. The court granted the motion and stayed the case for sixty days, requiring the parties to file an updated status report within that period.

What the court decidedThe model
Grant of Joint Motion for a Stay
“Here, based on the relevant considerations discussed by the Parties, the Court GRANTS the Joint Motion. As requested, the Court stays this case for sixty (60) days.”
agree with court
The court applied the standard factors for a stay (damage, hardship, orderly course of justice) and granted the joint motion. Because the parties jointly requested the stay and the court found the relevant considerations supported it, the decision follows from the law and the record recited.

The order itself: sound — The order correctly cites the inherent power to stay and the specific factors for evaluating a stay motion in the Ninth Circuit. It applies these factors to the joint motion and grants the stay for a specific duration with a reporting requirement. The reasoning is sufficient for a procedural stay order.
