The court reviewed the outcome of a prior settlement conference and determined that further settlement discussions would be beneficial. It ordered an in-person settlement conference for May 15, 2026, and mandated specific procedural requirements for the parties, including the submission of confidential settlement statements and participant information.

What the court decidedThe model
Order setting an in-person settlement conference for May 15, 2026, and imposing mandatory preparation procedures.
“Accordingly, an in-person Settlement Conference is SET for May 15, 2026 at 9:30 a.m. before Magistrate [JUSTICE] and with the following parties: 14th & Commercial, Level 10 Construction, and Schindler Elevator Corporation.”
agree with court
The court's decision to order a settlement conference is a discretionary case management action. The order recites that a prior conference did not result in a settlement but that further discussions would be beneficial, which is a reasonable basis for exercising discretion to order further settlement efforts. The mandatory procedures (full authority, confidential statements) are standard and consistent with local rules and general settlement conference practices.

The order itself: sound — The order is a standard case management order setting a settlement conference. It correctly cites local rules for attendance and uses persuasive authority to define the scope of settlement authority required. The inclusion of a provision regarding the use of GenAI tools is novel but procedurally sound, providing a mechanism for objection. The reasoning is sufficient for the purpose of the order.
